Careers / Open role
Japanese-speaking Technical Project Manager / Bridge Engineer (BrSE)
Summary
Take ownership of Japanese client communication, technical delivery, code review, and hands-on engineering across multiple production projects. Remote almost all the time.
About the role
Japanese title: 日本語対応テクニカルPM/ブリッジSE Masterbek is looking for an engineer who can take day-to-day project leadership off the founder's shoulders. You will communicate directly with Japanese clients, understand their feedback, turn it into clear engineering work, coordinate developers, review code, and write production code yourself. This is not a meeting-only project manager position. Hands-on implementation and debugging may be required every day, and may become most of the job when a project or deadline demands it. The initial scope includes an Android and web healthcare-related product and a Japanese business-system modernization project. Depending on workload, you may also support other Masterbek products. Current technologies include Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, React, PostgreSQL, Redis, Prisma, GCP, AWS, and OCR workflows.
Responsibilities
Communicate directly with Japanese clients and own the feedback loop from request to delivery. Turn client feedback into clear requirements, priorities, tasks, and acceptance criteria. Plan delivery, track progress, manage risks, coordinate releases, and report status in Japanese. Work directly with developers, remove blockers, review pull requests, and maintain engineering quality. Implement features, investigate production issues, fix bugs, and take over blocked engineering work whenever needed. Work across multiple Android and web projects without losing context or delivery ownership. Escalate delays and technical risks early, with concrete options instead of surprises. Go beyond a narrow job description when a release, incident, or customer commitment requires it.
Requirements
Business-level Japanese, approximately JLPT N2 or stronger in practical communication; a certificate is not required. Professional English for engineering communication and documentation. Uzbek is helpful. At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience. Experience leading technical delivery, reviewing production code, and coordinating other developers. Ability and willingness to code as a core part of the role, not only manage meetings and tickets. Strong understanding of Git, testing, release workflows, debugging, and production operations. Ability to join meetings during Japanese business hours and work outside normal hours when releases or incidents require it. Experience working or studying in Japan, serving Japanese clients, Android development, TypeScript web stacks, cloud infrastructure, OCR, or legacy modernization is helpful. Please submit a CV, GitHub or GitLab profile or portfolio, LinkedIn profile, and two relevant project examples with your exact role. Include a short answer in Japanese: プロジェクトの進捗が予定より遅れている場合、顧客と開発チームにどのように対応しますか。 The selection process includes a Japanese conversation, a live technical and project discussion with code review, identity and work-history verification, and a founder interview.
Benefits
Months 1-2, paid onboarding and evaluation: 10,000,000 UZS gross per month. From month 3, after successful onboarding and assuming full responsibilities: 20,000,000 UZS gross per month. Remote almost all the time, with flexibility around required client meetings and delivery commitments. Direct mentorship and project handover from the founder during the first two months. Meaningful ownership across production Android, web, backend, and cloud systems. Work outside normal hours may be required around deadlines, releases, or incidents; overtime and time off will follow the written contract and applicable law. This is a project-backed role at a small company. Continuity and workload depend on client demand, and any future change to hours or contract terms will be discussed in advance and documented.
